Sergio Rodriguez was diagnosed with MS at 25 years old. He called it a wake-up call and proceeded to lose 100 pounds and become a runner. He just ran his first half-marathon out in Arizona.
How many people would have taken a diagnoses like that and used it as an excuse to lay around watching TV and becoming even bigger? I think it takes a special type of person to take news that could potentially be devastating and have it motivate you to make your life better.
I do think it's pretty funny that P.F. Chang's is sponsoring races now. Have you ever eaten there and seen the calorie content of their dishes? They print it on the menu, which I think is great, but I doubt a lot of serious marathon runners eat six days a week at that place.
