Motivation. If you could bottle it, you'd be richer than a Hilton before the end of the week. It's so easy to realize you need to lose weight and even know how to do it, but taking that first step is just not that simple.
I get motivated when I look at my before pictures.
I get motivated reading blogs about people who are doing well and have lost massive amounts of weight. I'm crazily competitive and knowing someone else can do it inspires me to work harder. Or at least turn off "Toddlers and Tiaras" and go to the gym.
What inspires you guys? I'm not even talking exclusively about weight loss. What motivates you to better your lives, to dream of something better and the accomplish it? Seriously, I'd love comments bragging about stuff you've done and how proud you are of it. Don't worry about sounding like a pompous conceited butthead. There are certainly plenty of those in the world. One more is not going to kill us.

I watch P90X results videos on YouTube and I read blogs too. I do a lot of research on nutrition and supplements and am constantly adjusting my diet so I can better fuel my body. I take everything one day at a time but it becomes a hobby, kind of, and then a way of life. Tweaking the program until it's perfect is my favorite thing to do these days. :)

Competition totally motivates me. So I try to create my own competition with myself. A race, a deadline whatever. It doesn't always work, but sometimes is better than never I guess.
ReplyDeleteI am motivated by reading blogs from successful people and from competition. I think there are a lot of ways to get motivated though and they all work to some extent for me, those are just the best.
ReplyDeletethe potential of not hating my body when shopping, of not thinking about how bad I look compared to other people, of not having to cover up even in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm motivated by competition too (like some of the other commenters) and also by feeling good about myself. I don't feel good about my body right now and I hate that. It's kinda motivating but not enough I guess because I haven't lost any weight yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm also motivated by stories of people who've succeeded in reaching their goals whatever they may be. As far as losing weight goes, cuz I'm thinking about that right now, it's also motivating to see my friends get in shape and then I think, I can do that too!! Speaking of which, I think I'm going to get off my lazy a@@ and hit the elliptical right now. Thanks for the motivation!!!! And thanks for your visits to my blog too. I adore you.
I agree with Mary and Stacy on the competition idea. I am also a bit of a nut when it comes to logging my training sessions so I always know what I'm trying to beat next time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there is something profoundly motivating about doing (as one coach I respect has put it) a "hard, lonely thing". Maybe it's lifting on a Friday evening when everyone else is at happy hour or when I push my weight sled at 9 PM at night in a cold, empty parking lot. If people look at me like I'm a bit nuts, I know I'm going in the right direction. Doing what everyone else does tends to yield ordinary, not extraordinary, results.
In the weight loss realm, I'm inspired by swimsuit shopping. Actually doing it, not just thinking about. I had to do that tonight, and it was NOT pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteIn the weight loss AND the general sense, I'm inspired by my baby boy. I want to be a good example for him.
Thank you guys! I am writing all of this down to read the next time I am feeling lazy.
ReplyDeleteWhat inspires me? My ass.
